JavaME Mobile Port Scanner Midlet

If you’re into port scanning and computer security then you might appreciate this little buster which enables you to scan remote host for open port. As with other network scanners, it assumes you have network access of some sort for its operation.

Mobile Port Scanner user interface enables you to input hostname (or ip address) of the remote host that you want to scan. Scanning is performed after pressing the “Scan” softkey button and giving permission for the midlet to access the network.

mobileportscanner2.png

What should be Improved
Although Mobile Port Scanner has done a great job at scanning remote host, I find that the midlet can be improved by providing an option for the user to select a list (or a range) of ports prior scanning.

The midlet should also include the usual service name for the port it scanned for increased usability.

Requirements

  • This application requires MIDP 2.0 / CLDC 1.0 compatible phone (most modern phone meet this requirements)
  • Phone which supports SocketConnection (Nokia S40 phones do not meet this requirement)
  • Telco that allows you to connect to outbound port other than port 80 and 8080

Other Information
Mobile Port Scanner is licensed under the terms of GNU General Public License 2.0 and you’re welcomed to download it via SVN from its project website.

A pre-compiled version of Mobile Port Scanner can be obtained below

Control Linux Computers Using Mobile Phone

May 18th, 2007 1 Comment   Posted in J2ME / JavaME, Mobile Software

Matthias Bläsing has come up with an excellent application which enables the mobile phone users to control Linux PC using bluetooth enabled mobile phone.

Linux Bluetooth Remote Control (LBRC) requires a JavaME supported mobile phone with JSR 82 (Bluetooth API), a bluetooth dongle and a Linux computer running 2.6.x linux kernel.

bluetooth logo

The application works by feeding bluetooth signal events to Linux Kernel 2.6.x /dev/input/uinput device and maps the input to keystrokes, mouse movement, mousewheel movement or mousebutton clicks in your linux computer (using customized configuration file).

Please visit LBRC website for further information about the project, I’ve personally tried the application on my Ubuntu Linux pc, and was impressed by its performance. Thumb up for ingenuity!

Howto Reset Symbian S60 Wallet Password

The wallet feature in Nokia Symbian phone is very helpful in ways you can store your credit cards and bank account details conveniently. However there are times where you might forgets the wallet password altogether and may not be able to store new data inside it.

One of the solution to that problem is to reset the phone to factory settings, but this require tons of backups (phonebook, messages, multimedia files) and this can be troublesome to most people.

However, there’s an easy way to get around this problem, all you need to do is to type this code:

*#7370925538#

this will reset the wallet password and erase all of the wallet contents. This way, you can continue to use the wallet without much hassle

Although it is not quite a full replacement, Minimo is a project from the same people who brought you Mozilla Firefox. It uses the same Gecko engine which Firefox uses and its available on Pocket PC.

Minimo is available from its project website, and can be installed on Windows Mobile 4.2 or 5.0 devices. Now you can bring your Mozilla browser along on your Pocket PC !
Download Minimo Cab Installer [8.1 MB]

Pda manufacturing companies introduced pdas with builtin GPS. However, pda gps , is more expensive than simple pda. Therefore, you can find cheap pda with fewer features within reasonable price range. Pdas with Bluetooth technology, like hp pda , is well used to access internet as well as mailboxes.
