Perst – OODB Database for J2ME apps

September 26th, 2006 Posted in J2ME / JavaME

I’m sure anybody who has tried programming JavaME / J2ME applications knows that the CLDC spec does not support database, beside the Record Management api.

Maybe this is satisfactory for most of people, but for some they may find this is a great disadvantage to create mobile apps that can store data. This is because the RMS api barely provide the necessary functionality for manipulating data stored in there.

McObject has released an embedded database system specially design for J2ME devices. The database system, PerstLite uses only a tiny memory footprint making it suitable to develop mobile application that requires database storage.

PerstLite is licensed under the GNU General Public license and can be downloaded from McObject website. Perst is also available under commercial license should you want to develop proprietary software out from it.
